American Idol begins its first season in June 2002. It is a reality-based singing contest where people from all walks of life has the opportunity to be a singing superstar. The idea is that the contestants are eliminated by a panel of judges for the first few rounds, culminating with a SMS nationwide voting system to choose the winner of the contest.
The original three judges were record producer and music manager Randy Jackson, pop singer and choreographer Paula Abdul and music executive and manager Simon Cowell. And now all that remains from the original 3 judges is Randy Jackson.
It is from American Idol that we were first introduced to the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia Barriro, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks, etc.
